$10 or Rs 500 laptop to be displayed on 3rd Feb.
One cannot get even a simple black and white display mobile phone. But now in few months one can get a laptop. (Infact 6 months)
A $10 laptop (Rs 500) prototype, with 2 GB RAM capacity, would be on display in Tirupati on February 3 when the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology is launched. TOI
India caught everyone’s attention by announcing a laptop that would cost just $10 to own, but later made a redaction of the statement by saying it was $100. The latest happening is that the first figure was indeed true. The government will display a prototype of the Rs. 500 ($10) laptop in Tirupati on February 3 when the ICT department will launch its National Mission on Education.
The $10 laptop has come out of the drawing board stage due to work put in by students of Vellore Institute of Technology, scientists in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, IIT-Madras and involvement of PSUs like Semiconductor Complex.
At present the price is coming at around 20$ but the mass production can bring the prices down.
Features - As of now, only few features are known like the Wi-Fi, LAN, expandable memory which we assume is the storage and not RAM and will operate with just 2 watt of power.
This can say that India is progression towards achieving it mission of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC).
Telecom industry will surely have a direct impact of this.

Do you know South Delhi shop fetches world's highest rent.
I was stunt when I first read this. A 133 square feet shop on Safdarjang Road has been auctioned for a rental of a whopping Rs 12,09,000 per month, according to New Delhi Municipal Council's spokesperson, Anand Tiwari. The figure works out to Rs 9,022 per square feet per month which is about ten times costlier than rentals in any other part of the city and by far the highest in the world.Stunning numbers during this recession time isn't it. 12 Lakhs rent so imagine the person who bought the shop , how much he be earning to pay a rent of Rs 12Lakhs plus.
In New York's Fifth Avenue, rental for a shop of the same size is Rs 10,15,000, in Hong Kong's Causeway Bay it is Rs 9,80,000, in Avenue des Champs Elysees in Paris it is Rs 6,25,000 and in Via Montenapoleone of Italy it is Rs 5,40,000.
In India, the most expensive rental area is Khan Market where rent per month for a shop of approximately 133 sq feet would be Rs 1,46,000 followed by South Extension which is Rs 1,06,000 and Connaught Place where it is Rs 89,775. ET
In Mumbai and other metros we have never heard of such a case.
So can we say Indian real Estate market stories are intact.
India's real estate prices are going up.

Is Slumdog Millionaire really India's pride.
Slumdog Millionaire surely won 4 Golden Globe but did it eradicate India's poverty ? No !Then how can we say it as our nations pride. The movie is actually sued by Slum dwellers for insulting the poor. Yes it actually does.
This is what an Indian has to say - "Vishwakarma requested the court to protect the honour and respect of millions of slum dwellers across India," his lawyer Shruti Singh told the Indo Asian News Service."What hurt him was that even Indians associated with the film [did not object to being called] slumdogs," Ms Singh said."
The movie shows the world only the worst part of it or the negative aspect. It actually shows the image of poor India.
The movie is releasing in India on 23rd of Jan 2009
I don't think its India's Pride.

Effect of Nortel's bankruptcy on India INC.
India companies have less exposure to this Canadian Giant.
The company which has maximum exposure is Sasken Comm. Nortel has arround 10% stake in Sasken. This is one company which can be affected maximum.
Infosys , TCS and Wipro also have less exposure to Nortel.
Nortel also provides equipments to BSNL, RCom and Bharti Airtel but this segment would not be affected as it is a profit making one.
Nortel has $2.3 billion of cash reserves and could have survived till 2010. But then too it filed for bankruptcy in USA, Canada and Europe.
PS - Indian companies don't have much exposure on Nortel. Some effect may be seen on Indian Companies. But Satyams effect will last longer !
